SSD stands for Solid State Disk while HDD stands for Hard Disk Drive. Still in 2020 people ask me whether there is a difference or not.
Now a day’s SSD’s have become very cheap. When looking back 10 years the for an SSD was 10 times higher. Currently, the durability of SSD is not that high so usually, they are not used for NAS. But they pretty speed up your computer.
Let’s have a look at an older comparison from 2009 where I have upgraded my machine. The same machine once with an HDD and once with an SDD.
In the chart, you can see that the throughput for SSD is 3 times higher and that is stable while HDD throughput gets slower. This is the main difference which makes your machine more performant.
Now a day’s SSD speed is around 550 MB/sec. Hopefully, now you have a rough understanding of the performance boost an SSD can grant.
